Absolutely,but considering repairing marine propulsion systems is what I have been doing for a living for 4 decades that can be said for any engine,particularly lightweight high horsepower versions with marginal cooling systems that are the mainstay of my business. Keep us advised how it turns out. A full displacement does not have the length to do 15 knots or be capable of doing that, a full displacements hull speed at 49' probably would not do 11 knots either. I was always told to warm it up for an extra 5-10 minutes every morning and let it cool off good when done for the night. I thought that maybe, to reach that range, speed was intended to be not more than 7 knots. I would add a low sensibility for less than perfect fuel.

This engine is part of a complete power pack designed and supplied by Cummins Engine Company Limited. I would set the overhead at around 60-70k miles or around 1500 hrs. There is an owners manual which covers several engine models including the 903. No such thing as too many Magnums. At that point, there will be many options. Was a good engine for the era it was born.
And then, the fabrication of the engine beds for new mounting points. I'd take a 903 over a 2-stroke Detroit any day. Are there still any decent mechanical fuel pump shops around? Afterall,903 ci 320hp is a recipe for low stress,high duty cycle and longevity. High torque at low rpm, long lifetime, easy and very light maintenance needs, low fuel consumption are the goals to reach. The 504 and 555 engines were not good engines over here. These engines require good batteries and wiring. So it gave a fuel consumption of around 24.
One has a 903 the other has a 855. Are there still any decent mechanical fuel pump shops around? All you can do is ask them to adjust to the high side of the spec. . You dont need 2 filters. It's tough to find any fuel shop that will turn the fuel up beyond what the pump code calls for.
