Initially the deviation is only 3-4 mph, but over time will worsen. Has anyone had this happen before? I found a site online that states a new cluster with extra for programming the mileage, etc. The speedometer and tachometer are showing erradic values while driving. My cluster's speedo and tach quit working at 85k, well past the warranty repair. Has never read 0mph in park, only 20mph or more. In addition the instrument light for the transmission does not work and you can not tell what gear you are in another potentially dangerous situation, on top of that the check engine light comes on repeatedly causing minor repair costs each time it occurs.
The contact stated that the instrumental panel failed and the gauges were not reading accurately. Also once the truck is turned off and the key is out it will still do this because I can see the gauges drop below zero and come back to zero. Have a good one, and good luck! Perhaps last summer or fall, I checked the fuses: All good. It will usually go several weeks without ever working properly and then will work for a few days. It sticks on 0mph, on a previous rate of speed regardless of increase or decrease, or displays rate of speed at 100+ mph.

Auto manufacturers have been installing speedometers in cars for over 100 years. The speedometer will reach the appropriate speed, then fall off and go back to zero.
I sanded them and reinstalled the plug. Drive it until you get to that mileage you set with Summit and put it in. Customer responsible for return shipping on core items. Sometimes it will continue to do this over and over, many times in row. Something as basic and necessary to driving safety as speedometer function should, in my opinion, be designed to last the vehicle's entire intended lifespan without systemic failure. After a couple of months, it stopped working completely. While driving 30 mph, he noticed that the speedometer displayed that he was driving less than 20 mph.
The vehicle was inspected by an independent mechanic and they advised the contact that the instrumental cluster needed to be replaced. If I don't know how fast I am going I am I am creating potential hazard. Make sure to disconnect the battery during installation so you don't short anything out. It was an easy install, taking about 15 minutes to do the swap. The speedometer will reach the appropriate speed, then fall off and go back to zero. Of course we were pulled over for going over the speed limit. Not like a traditional gauge which will go to zero if there is no signal.
The stepper motors go bad in them. After pulling over to the side of the road I noticed my speedometer read 35 at a complete stop. The pedal was not engaged! You could also use the milage shown prorated of course on receipts for new tires or almost any service performed on the vehicle by a reputable service company. The dealer was made aware of the failure and the technician stated that the instrument cluster would have to be replaced. At worse, speedometer can show 0-5 mph while traveling at 60-65 mph actual, and at other times has registered 110-115 mph while traveling at 40-45 mph actual.
Service engine light stays on and my temperature gauge doesn't work I took it in and they said this problem is only in alaska and there is no fix. Also, the headlights turned on and off independently, the speedometer and temperature gauges showed inaccurate readings. The consumer stated he did not know how fast he was driving, since the speedometer was inoperative. Oh and put the ignition in yourself and save 700 bucks because that is what the dealer will charge you!!! Especially if they know its a safety issue. The contact stated that the rear suspension, front suspension, and starter support showed excessive rust. I might blame my gps on this.
No lights will work at all. It is one of two things the cluster or the ignition! Dealership says no recall; not their resposibility. After I did this to mine, the problem hasn't come back in over 3 months. It is nice to have all the lights and gauges on the cluster working. Check main electrical wires from battery to be sure the connections are clean and tight.
Once you get it nice and clean, spray some sealant over it. The truck drove fine through the problem. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. Would it really be 'plug and play' with a used one, or would it still have to be programmed to not set any cel's? I don't know if I am in compliance. I have also contacted gm customer help line and the said the same thing. I think the magic number is 70K but I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.
