Alcantara-like trim adds richness to the side bolsters while red stitching accents the sporty fabric in the center. Torque isn't generous, but in everyday driving it proves to be clearly sufficient. Then we were dazzled by the Toyota Prius's multiple electric motors and video-game energy-flow displays. It has gotten progressively worse.

Where the Prius wears its politically correct, environmentally concerned heart in its distinct sheetmetal the way, say, a 360 Modena announces its performance capabilities in every fender swoop, the Civic Hybrid looks just like any old Civic in much the same way that the Road Runner still looked like a Belvedere even if there was a 426 Hemi under its hood. The front and rear bumpers, headlamps and taillights have been redesigned, as Honda usually does when a model reaches the fourth year of its 5-year cycle before a whole new model comes along. Other areas are beginning to fade, as well. Drives very nice and smooth, accelerates quickly, comfortable and easy car to drive. The Honda Civic line is composed of a family of diverse models. My teenager loves the car! The seat's forward movement creates the largest possible portal for rear-seat entry given the design, but it's still not an easy matter to fold your body into the rear seat of this or any coupe, much less haul yourself out. The hood sits amazingly low. It also means that the MacPherson strut front and double-wishbone rear suspension is identical to other Civics and so are the 10. The Civic Si's transmission ratios seem perfectly matched to the engine. Also, the outboard rear-seat head restraints are adjustable. Tires and a new battey have been my largest maintenece expenses. Remedy Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the passenger side air bag inflator, free of charge. I bought my 04 Civic Coupe used-one previous owner-basically on a whim.
