I followed the instructions they had for reseting it, and that took care of it. Within six months of having this car the ignition switch went bad and was unable to start the car and it had to be repaired. They are not the brightest sparks on the block. Notice as soon as ignition is turned on, there is a draw on the fuel gauge. Had the fuel pump replaced. There are just too many engine controls that could cause a misfire.
Was it raining when it happened to you? Simply detach your car key from all other keys. I've maintained routinely, but it continues to keep breaking down. Cam sensor, ignition module, ignition coils, fuel pump? I figured the battery was dying and gave it gas when it started. The consumer stated the turn signals failed. I plan on having it repaired as soon as I get a chance, but it'd be nice if there was a recall outstanding already.
Could it be the relay, or is it the starter? Here is a link that gives in depth instructions with illustrations on removal and replacement of the switch. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. I'm a Licensed Diesel Mechanic and had one hell of a time trying to fix this car. It's designed to plug into a regular fuse spot, not a mini fuse, so I took a pair of side cutters and used a black felt marker with a micro fuse to mark it and trimmed the spade terminals to fit the mini fuse slot. Yet his vehicle experienced the same problem as indicated in the recall, but was not included in the recall. If that not it then your fuel pump is probably bad. Mechanic said needs to engine because the comprssion. But its definitely worth looking into, and hopefully it saves you a lot of money!!. I lose my turn signals approximately 2-3 times per 10 mile trip.
There were no fault codes and I had spark and the fuel pump was pressuring up however the injectors were not releasing fuel. Any help you can give me would be appreciated. Gm was the wost help ever. Start car and check for change oil light to be off. The failure recurred multiple times. I fed a little propane out of a handheld torch into the intake and cranked it over and the car started on propane.
I am irritated by this. But it's no guarantee they'll be working at the end of the trip. I just bought the car 1 year ago and thanks to you all will be ready for more problems. Turning the key to the start position and leaving it on for 10 mins. That reset the computer, and it started right up. Is there a recall for this problem as I see there many complaints with the flasher unit or hazard component. The sound would increase before stopping sporadically.
The vehicle has not been to the dealership. I'd begun to think that the towing process somehow fixed the problem. My car has the exact same problem but is not included in the recall. After doing the key restart for several months it finally got to where it would never start. Also my car has 90K on it not 190K. It is not the passlock security system as we had that problem in the past and have disabled it.
The failure occurred several times. I have wasted so much money just on towing. Jan 20, 2009 I had this problem with my 1999 alero i took it apart and investigated it myself because i have been a mechanic for 25 years now but i had to replace the starter relay the whole ignition system and believe it or not new valves. The incident date is the last time this problem occurred I haven't driven the car for a few days , but it has actually been going on for over 2 years. I plan on having it repaired as soon as I get a chance, but it'd be nice if there was a recall outstanding already.
The failure mileage was 20,000 and the current mileage was 100,000. Generally I can monkey with the hazard light button after I've turned the car on but before I start driving to ensure that they're in working condition. For some reason, having additional keys attached somehow interferes with ignition. I am irritated by this. The contact stated that the audible sound that accompanies the turning signal continuously chimed after the turn was completed.
I replaced the fuse for the signal lights and this did not remedy the problem. We started to drop the fuel tank-not fun-but then read about the relay. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. You go outside and need to get somewhere, hop in your car, and it wont start. They will come on and off on random occasions and nothing could be done to fix it. Turns out the timing chain in the engine had snapped, and it would be cheaper to buy a new engine than to try and fix it.
